The food and drink community celebrated success on 21 September 2017 as the winners of the Food and Drink Federation Awards were announced.

Danone Nutricia Early Life Nutrition understand that the nutrition a child gets in the first one thousand days of life, is scientifically proven to influence future health outcomes. This is one reason why since 2014 Danone Nutricia Early Life Nutrition have been talking to parents to understand their expectations, as well as working with a team of internal nutritionists and dieticians to understand how to make their products healthier. These insights helped to trigger the biggest transformation for the company's Cow & Gate brand in the UK in the last decade.

The “Taste, Texture and Transparency: Revolutionising the C&G jars portfolio” was driven by the company's desire to deliver health through foods, as well as their responsibility as a leading manufacturer to address rising obesity levels. The project involved four different methods of transformation:

  • Removing fruit and fruit juice concentrate from all the savoury jars
  • A 25% reduction in the total sugar of the jars
  • Improving the texture progression of the jars
  • Creating brand new labels across the range to improve transparency

This 20-month long innovation process has demonstrated how every part of the business revolves around nutritional science and consumer needs. It also overcame immense challenges including the technical challenges of reducing sugar and improving texture. It has been a huge success with the company seeing the market share of Cow & Gate jars increase.
