Regional Growth Business – Central England and Wales Award 2017

The food and drink community celebrated success on 21 September 2017 as the winners of the Food and Drink Federation Awards were announced.

Tiny Rebel

Based in Newport, South Wales, Tiny Rebel is a family-run brewery that is celebrating Wales' great independent brewing heritage, while at the same time connecting with the local community and global markets. Founded in 2010, the brand began with 50 litre home-brewing equipment and a pallet of ingredients. The founders then spent two years perfecting their craft of beer and creating the brand that has become Tiny Rebel.

Shortly after its official launch in February 2012 with two beers - FUBAR and Urban IPA, Tiny Rebel won Champion Beer of Wales in both 2013 and 2014; and Champion Beer of Britain with its Welsh Red Ale, Cwtch in 2015. In 2013 the first Tiny Rebel bar opened in Cardiff and a second came in Newport in 2015.

Due to demand in both the UK and in over 20 export markets, the brand recently invested £2.6m in a new brewery, giving capacity to produce 9m pints annually, along with offices, a brewery tap, a shop and visitor centre for tours and events. With this increased capacity Tiny Rebel has been able to drive sales in existing export destinations as well as explore new opportunities in growing markets. The brand has also seen increased listing in national supermarket chains and pub chains in the UK in recent years. Sustainability is vital to Tiny Rebel, whether in the food chain that sees them donate used grain and hops to local farms, or using their own on-site natural spring water to produce all beers.
