Britvic - Case study: Reducing water use
Britvic has a commitment to managing its water
consumption and actively encourages employees to
suggest practical ideas and champion environmental
efficiencies to help achieve company goals.
At its Widford site in Chelmsford, for example, staff
developed a system to reclaim water and convert it
back into the production processes in the factory. By
using this new method, the factory has saved around
1,000kg of steam per hour, reduced their water usage
by 62% and cut their CO2emissions by 19 tonnes per
annum.
Similar water saving initiatives have also been
implemented at other production sites including Britvic's
factory in Leeds. It has managed to save 25 million litres
of water each year on just one production line alone, by
identifying two ways of adapting existing machinery with
some simple devices at a cost of just £750.
Britvic's ambition is paying off. Since 2002, its water
usage per litre of product produced has reduced by
14.6%.
