Britvic - Case study: Cutting CO2 emissions
As part of the company's plans to reduce their environmental impacts, this year
Britvic completed the ISO14001 certification, an environmental management
systems standard, at its Huddersfield site and maintained this certification across
all other sites.
Through a variety of measures, Britvic has achieved a 30.2% reduction in energy
used in manufacturing and a 23.8% reduction in carbon emissions per tonne of
product produced since 1997.
This achievement can be partly attributed to engaging employees on energy
efficiency, with every site management team including energy efficiency improvement
targets in personal objectives. This helps the Britvic teams understand that all
staff have a role to play in making the company's operations more efficient.
In absolute terms, Britvic's success on energy efficiency means over 45% more
product is produced each year, using only 1.4% more energy compared to 1997
levels.
