Pepsico - Case study: Cutting CO2 emissions
PepsiCo is committed to reducing its greenhouse gas
emissions by decreasing overall energy usage in its
factories and boosting its use of renewable energy.
Since 2008 PepsiCo has increased to 16% the proportion
of renewable electricity within its total energy usage. Its
Quaker factory in Cupar, for instance, is buying 100%
renewable electricity and is exploring Combined Heat and
Power solutions too.
PepsiCo has also reduced energy usage by 11.8% since
2008 thanks to its investment in new technologies, reducing
waste as well as educating and empowering employees.
The company's Walkers factory in Leicester reduced its
energy use by 15% in 2008 – contributing to a 9,000 tonnes
reduction in CO2 emissions at the site. To reduce energy
usage further the company is currently investing in more
efficient gas combustion technologies for the factory.
