Cadbury - Case study: Reducing packaging
Cadbury has given its Roses and Heroes tins a green
makeover – breaking with tradition for Christmas 2009 and
switching from metal to cardboard boxes.
The new packaging will achieve a 45% weight reduction
and save more than 200 tonnes of steel in the process.
They are being tested in Tesco stores and, depending on
consumer feedback, will be rolled out more widely in the
future.
The move is part of Cadbury's Purple Goes Green
environmental strategy that includes a commitment to
reduce packaging of seasonal and gifting products by 25%
by 2010.
In line with this strategy, Cadbury is implementing an
average 32% packaging reduction across its selection
box range, saving approximately 400 tonnes of cardboard.
Cadbury will also introduce a 28% average packaging
reduction on tree decorations which will result in more than
25 tonnes of packaging saved per year.
