Dairy Crest - Case study: Reducing packaging
Since signing WRAP's Courtauld Commitment in 2007,
Dairy Crest has developed a number of innovations with its
retail customers to reduce packaging and packaging waste
– such as the HDPE milk bottles containing 10% recycled
plastic that it supplied to Marks & Spencer.
In Sainsbury's, the company has introduced an innovative
alternative to conventional packaging formats. Milk is
supplied in a recyclable bag which works with a special
reusable jug.
The bags are made from very strong plastic
material and have undergone extensive testing to ensure
their durability.
The milk bag is pierced by a spike when
fitted into the jug. A no-leak seal is formed and milk is
delivered through the spout.
