Kraft Foods - Case study: Reducing packaging
Kraft Foods UK and Ireland continued its work on the
sustainability of its Kenco coffee range, with the relaunch
of its new Kenco Eco Refill packs. Each of these resealable
bags of Kenco Smooth Roast and Rich Roast freeze dried
coffee weigh 97per cent less (per gram of coffee) than any
of Kenco's glass jars meaning that once used, less waste
is sent to landfill.
Also, the energy required to create a refill
pack and its contents is 81% less than that required to
create an equivalent sized glass jar from scratch.
Kraft Foods encouraged consumers to recognise the
environmental benefits of refilling and re-using their empty
coffee jars and containers. Providing consumers with the
option of a refill allows them to make a contribution towards
reducing packaging waste.
