Wrigley - Case study: Fewer transport miles
Wrigley is achieving fewer and friendlier food transport
miles following a review of its UK food distribution. This
review is hoped to embed environmental best practices
into transport operations and reduce operating costs.
Following an audit, the plastic containers used for the
Hubba Bubba bubble tape product were identified as a
high impact stock keeping unit in terms of transportation.
The company has proactively moved production of the
packaging from US to Europe, which reduced the impact
by 3.4 million transport miles compared with 2005.
Further
improvements are expected following a decision to move
the sourcing from Europe to the UK in 2009.
