Britvic - Case study: Water efficiency

Water is the largest ingredient Britvic uses in its drinks and it is central to the manufacturing process.

Britvic uses water carefully, which is why it signed up to the FHC long-term target to reduce water use in manufacturing by 20% by 2020 compared to 2007 levels.

When Britvic discovered that one of its pasteurising lines in Leeds was contributing to significant energy and water loss, the problem was diagnosed quickly and a project developed to improve its efficiency. A series of planned mechanical modifications has meant that Britvic now saves eight million litres of water per year and, with a second stage of improvements to optimise the temperature system, will be saving 25 million litres per year.

Britvic has already reduced its overall water-to-product ratio and reduced effluent-to-consumption ratio.
