Case study: William Lloyd Williams and Son
William Lloyd Williams and Son has the interests of its local community at the
heart of its business. During Foot and Mouth Disease, this family owned
abattoir
and butchers took the decision to take lambs from all local farmers as
opposed
to the usual practice of just one or two - all in the interest of ensuring
an
income for as many local farmers as possible in tough times.
Now post Foot and Mouth the business has reaped the benefits of their community
lead actions, in Mr Williams' own words “because we looked after the farmers
during the outbreak of Foot and Mouth, they are now looking after me and the
quality of the livestock I take at the abattoir is the best in the west!”
This business has reached out to its community in more ways than this, for
example an interesting initiative was a competition run to raise money for the
restoration of the town clock – the name of that competition was “guess the
weight
of
the lamb's testicles”!
This initiative ran in 2005.
