Case Study: Harry Tuffin Ltd

Fun Day

Harry Tuffin Ltd is an independent family retailer in Wales and on the Shropshire Borders with a real focus on providing community support to benefit the rural community within which it operates.

The focal point of the company's local initiatives is its annual Fun Day, which takes place in the company's grounds in Churchstoke. The company organises a range of attractions – traction engines, circus, motorcycle displays - and invites local organisations such as the guides and brownies to have stalls at the day. The Fun Day attracts around 2,500 people from a 60 – 65 mile radius. All the funds raised go to local charities.

In addition, the company undertakes a host of initiatives large and small to the benefit of its local community including:

  • providing recycling facilities
  • sponsorship of local amenities e.g. police station, host the local post office, rent free space for the ambulance shop
  • free entry and access to the grounds of the Churchstoke store, which features its own country park, with 50 acres of land, children's play facilities and animals such as Highland cattle, deer and wildfowl.
