Case Study: McDonald's Restaurants

As part of its partnership with the UK's four Football Associations, McDonald's Restaurants is running a programme to recruit and train community football coaches across the UK.

The qualified coaches help raise standards of coaching in local clubs, therLocal community football teameby helping to improve the overall standard of football played throughout the UK.

Each of McDonald's restaurants invests in the scheme and participates within its local community, through local club twinning or the provision of fun Football Open Days.

The impact of the campaign is nationwide with 1,200 restaurants across the UK taking part.

McDonald's vision of using the FA partnerships to support football in the community across the UK has resulted in over one million children receiving coaching and 4,500 local clubs being sponsored.

Since the programme began in 2002, over 13,000 qualified coaches have been recruited, trained and deployed throughout UK communities, and by 2010 this number will have increased to over 20,000.

To date nearly two million extra hours of coaching have been delivered – with more mums getting into coaching – and the number of qualified disabled coaches in England has also doubled.

The programme has also enabled McDonald's to improve its reputation in local communities amongst parents, Government, opinion formers and the media.
