Case Study: Nestlé UK

As part of Nestlé's mission to be the world's leading nutrition, health and wellness company, it is committed to helping its employees lead healthier lives.

Nestle Workplace case study After an employee health review, Nestlé developed a wellness programme, which aims to improve the health and fitness of Nestlé UK and Ireland's 7,000 employees. The programme has four pillars:

  • Nutrition: Nestlé reviewed its catering contracts, set minimum nutrition guidelines and KPIs and is now offering healthier choices and providing Guideline Daily Amount information on food in its staff restaurants.
  • Increased Physical Activity: All employees are encouraged to participate in the Global Corporate Challenge; a unique walking scheme designed to motivate employees to walk at least 10,000 steps per day (as per the WHO recommendation).
  • Mental Resilience: Systems are in place to prevent and manage mental health difficulties.
  • Health Screening: Nestlé provides subsidised health assessments to its employees.

The programme is delivered through site champions and is regularly reviewed to ensure it meets employee needs. Progress and next steps are reported to the board on a monthly basis.

Examples of the scheme's success include increased employee engagement with the Global Corporate Challenge and evidence that employees are increasingly opting for healthier choices in the staff restaurant.
