Case Study: A.F. Blakemore
A.F. Blakemore's Schools Partnership Programme took shape
in 2005 when the company agreed to integrate a corporate
social responsibility strategy, which included a community
programme, based around the theme of school partnerships.
As a company whose services range from the provision of
school meals to the supply of food to local community stores,
schools are particularly poignant to A.F. Blakemore and its
diverse customer base in the UK.
The main objectives of the Schools Partnership Programme
are to support education, employability and economic
renewal across A.F. Blakemore's local communities. The
project involves its workforce engaging in a wide range of
activities to support schools including, conducting practice
interviews, student mentoring, regeneration projects and
schools study tours.
Employees at A.F. Blakemore are free to undertake
volunteering activities under the programme and to use the
experience they gain in the community towards their own
personal development. Staff involvement has been very
positive, from June 2008 to April 2010, 17% of the company's
workforce had worked with 55 schools, impacting the lives of
4,500 children.
