Case Study: Cadbury UK
Cadbury has a long history of working with schools in the
delivery of classroom talks, work experience, facilitating
factory tours and mentoring young people.
In 2007 Cadbury launched its programme 'The World of
Work' (WOW), which it developed as a direct response to
the Government's 14-19 curriculum reform; in particular the
establishment of the Diploma in Manufacturing, Engineering,
Leisure & Tourism. Initially the scheme took place at the
Cadbury sites in Bournville and Sheffi eld, and was extended
to Cadbury World in 2008.
In order to deliver the support needed for the new Diplomas,
Cadbury set up a steering group to review how to deliver its
programme, whilst providing adequate support to volunteers
and ensuring both schools and volunteers gained a positive
experience. Working collaboratively with local authorities and
schools, Cadbury developed a set of materials and guidance
for the WOW programme which can be delivered by any
team of employees within the business. As well as delivering
and developing the programme, Cadbury is committed to
widening participation and acting as a role model to other
businesses.
The Cadbury Foundation has committed £200,000 in support
of the programme. Since 2008 Cadbury has supported over
192 students in Sheffield and Birmingham and delivers 12 programmes a year.
