Case Study: Coca-Cola Enterprises
Coca-Cola Enterprise's (CCE) Real Business Challenge (RBC)
is an enterprise initiative where students aged 14/15 work in
teams to tackle a business challenge, from designing a new
soft drink, to identifying a new location for a manufacturing
site. It aims to give students an opportunity to practise skills
that will give them a competitive edge in the job market, from
teamwork to presentation skills. Students work alongside
CCE employees to give them a real-life business perspective.
Since its launch five years ago in partnership with the regional
development agency Yorkshire Forward, over 50,000 students
have benefited from the RBC programme in Yorkshire.
In 2009, the initiative was extended to Wales, Scotland,
London and the Midlands. The success of this is due to a
collaborative approach with regional development agencies,
Young Chamber, education business partnerships, colleges
and local radio stations.
The RBC programme has always been linked to the national
curriculum and to add further value, CCE is working with
Edexcel (the UK's largest awarding body offering academic
and vocational qualifi cations and testing to schools, colleges
etc), in order to accredit the RBC learning activity to the
content of their BTEC (Business And Technology Education
Council) workskills qualifi cation.
Over 200 CCE employees have supported the programme,
acting as business mentors for students. This contribution is now
accredited by the CCE management development programme.
