Case Study: Authentic Food Company
The initial motivation behind the Authentic Food Company's
Go Green Project was to raise awareness of environmental
issues internally within the company. As a responsible and
ethical company, Authentic felt that it needed to do more to
care for the environment. The Project's motto was 'Thinking
about tomorrow today' and involved a wide range of both
internal and external initiatives managed by the company's
Green Panel. The main aims of the Green Panel are to
work through the five main principles at the heart of the
company's Authentic Environmental Management System
which are: commitment and policy, planning, implementation,
measurement and evaluation, and review and improvement.
The Authentic Food Company's Go Green initiatives have
been running for the last fi ve years and have already made
a positive impact on the business and its surrounding
community. For example, in December 2009, the company
hosted a Green Day across both its sites to help raise
awareness of the local environment.
Throughout the day, Authentic held various green activities including: a company
awareness environmental briefi ng, a Go Green quiz and
an energy demonstration showing the difference in energy
usage between standard and energy effi cient light bulbs. The
Cycle2Work Bike Scheme supported the day and provided an
added benefi t to employees, helping to reduce CO2 emissions.
Looking ahead, the company is actively working towards the
requirements of the International Standard ISO: 14001:2004 and has developed a
policy and Environmental Management
System to ensure that good
environment practice stays
at the heart of the business
now and in the future.
