How Government can help
"We cannot deliver on our Ambition in
isolation – Government must also play
its part in supporting us as we strive
to improve our environmental
performance".
This report demonstrates the collective progress being
made by FDF and its member companies to deliver on
our sector's Ambition to reduce its environmental impact.
We are determined to make a real difference now and in
the future to the environment which is why we intend to
work with key stakeholders in 2010 to collectively evolve
the Ambition towards even greater effectiveness.
But we cannot deliver on our Ambition in isolation –
Government must also play its part in supporting us as
we strive to improve our environmental performance.
Therefore we are calling on Government to:
-
Help us to invest in low carbon technologies by
providing a stable framework which promotes business
confidence and long-term planning such as extending
the existing Climate Change Agreements beyond 2015
- Ensure any new environmental policies promote and
protect UK industry's competitiveness and are fully
costed
- Prioritise and co-ordinate the central funds available to
help us transform our sector
- Provide the necessary infrastructure to enable us to
cut waste disposal and maximise resource efficiency
through recycling and recovery technologies, such as
anaerobic digestion
- Support industry to optimise and effectively manage
the use of water resources through the supply chain by
providing appropriate specialist advice and integrating
us into wider water saving strategies
