SFDF Members' Forum: Help Shape 'A Future in Food'

Back to events

8 September 2010

Event, Macdonald Holyrood Hotel, Edinburgh

Would you like to get involved, or more involved, with local schools?... Would you like to find out about Curriculum for Excellence and how primary and secondary schooling has changed from your school days?... Do you enjoy brainstorming and coming up with fun, new ideas? ….

If the answer is 'yes' to any of these questions then come along to SFDF's next Members Forum taking place at the Macdonald Holyrood Hotel on the afternoon of Wednesday 8th September.

The event will take place from 3-4.30pm and, being just a short walk away from the Scottish Parliament, is ideally located should you also wish to attend our early evening Parliamentary Reception on the same day.

Following a welcome and introduction by SFDF Director, Flora Mclean, Macphie's HR Manager Andrew Harper will share his experiences of working with local schools and, most importantly, how the business has reaped many benefits over the years. Not least as the perfect recruitment mechanism to identify future staff.

From the other side of the fence, Eric Burton is Education Development Officer with West Lothian Council, will also talk about why it is important for schools to get closer to industry. A former teacher, Eric has first hand experience of the many advantages to be gained by teachers and pupils in working with local employers.

Forum participants will also experience a live demonstration of Glow. Managed by LTS, and working alongside Curriculum for Excellence, Glow is the world's first national intranet for education and is already transforming the way education is delivered in Scotland.

Finally, working around key topics such as sustainability, NPD, health & wellbeing and ethical trading, the event will then conclude with short, practical workshop sessions that promise to be enlightening, challenging and, importantly, fun.

In addition to senior management across all factory functions, this Members Forum would also benefit from input from recent graduates or apprentices.

There is no charge to attend but numbers will be restricted to no more than 30 so, if you or any of your colleagues are interested in attending, please register your interest as soon as possible.

Alternatively, if you can't manage along to the Members' Forum or the Parliamentary Reception but are still keen to talk about the schools programme then Moira Stalker would be delighted to hear from you.
