6 September 2012

Event, Radisson Blu, 80 High Street, The Royal Mile, Edinburgh

The Diet and Health Research Industry Club (DRINC) was established by the Research Councils, in partnership with a consortium of 15 industrial members, in 2007 to generate underpinning knowledge and improved skills for the UK food and drink industry. Over £12M has been spent on high quality research into diet and health within UK universities and research institutes.

DRINC has been successful in generating excellent pre-competitive research across a wide brief in the diet and health area including characterisation and delivery of 'health' ingredients within foods; understanding the psychological/physiological background to consumer behaviour and the development of essential tools such as nutrition-responsive biomarkers, model gut systems and consumer behaviour screens.

A new five-year programme is planned for launch in late 2012 to build on the success of DRINC. The Research Councils wish to ensure that the programme sponsored addresses key long-term strategic needs of the food industry, within the broadest context of diet and health, so are seeking input from the food and drink industry on research priorities.
