Exports case study: Macsween

Macsween of Edinburgh, a 3rd generation family company, is an internationally-recognised food company which has been at the forefront of haggis making for 60 years.

Our ambition is to make Macsween haggis available worldwide and, to do this, we’ve been working hard identifying growth markets and developing recipes true to our tradition to allow us entry.

We are delighted that Macsween, the UK’s no.1 Haggis brand, is the first genuine Scottish haggis to reach consumers in Canada in 46 years and Singapore in 21 years!

We began exporting to both markets in August 2017 and, since then, have seen steady growth in sales. In order to break into both markets we had to work hard with the various food agencies to get our recipe & facility approved.

In Canada we have 5 distributors and a number of retailers who are interested in listing our products in their stores. In Singapore, we have one distributor and we’re available in Huber’s Bistro & Butchery and a number of restaurants including Gordon Ramsay’s.

In addition, we currently have interest from Sri Lanka, India & Europe and are constantly looking for new opportunities.
