Prepared foods exports

Prepared foods exports were up 14.5% to £1,424.3m (incorporating fats & oils, preserved fruit/veg, fruit juice, soups, sauces & condiments, ice cream, vinegar, animal feeds and other miscellaneous products).

Cereal & bakery products exports

Cereals & bakery products exports were £986.9m up 3.3%. The cereal commodities category fell by 13.8% but this was more than offset by the growth seen in baked products such as cakes, biscuits and breakfast cereals and milling products such as wheat and grains.

Meat exports

Meat (and related animal products) exports were up 18.4% to £819.5m.

Fish & seafood exports

Fish & seafood exports grew 15.0% to £695.5m.

Dairy exports

Dairy exports was the best performing sector in the first half (as it was for the first half in 2010) with growth of 30.5% to £607.2m, including 24.1% increase in the key cheese category.

Fruit & vegetable product exports

Fruit & vegetable exports were up 29.6% to £498.6m.

Tea, coffee, cocoa & spices and Sugar & Sugar confectionery exports

Tea, coffee, cocoa & spices exports were £380.3m, up marginally by 0.5%.

Sugar & sugar confectionery -19.0% to £188.9m but sugar confectionery was up 5.6% (no.1 market Ireland +8.3%, no.2 market Germany -16.9%, no.3 market USA +48.4%).

Non-alcoholic drink exports

Non-alcoholic drinks (not including fruit juices which are part of the prepared foods category) returned to growth in the first half of 2011, up 15.4% to £198.5m.
