Greenvale AP - Case study: Reducing water use

"The Federation House Commitment has helped to illustrate our water consumption year on year and has highlighted that good housekeeping alone can generate a significant amount of savings.”

Paul Tyson Environmental Manager, Greenvale AP

What have we done?

Potatoe plantGreenvale AP joined the Federation House Commitment in order to help quantify the amount of water used by the entire Greenvale organisation. As a by-product of this, sites where water consumption has been identified as significant have undertaken sub-metering on site in order to further quantify areas of high consumption.

In 2008 Greenvale made significant savings on water consumption (over 20%) at its largest site in Floods Ferry, Cambridgeshire, compared to 2007.

This reduction is made even more significant as the site handled and processed more tonnage of product in 2008. The challenge Greenvale faces now will be the maintenance of the reduced consumption at a similar level throughout 2009.
