FDF Response to 'Measuring and reporting of GHG emissions by UK companies: a
Back to index
July 2011
The majority of FDF members support a voluntary approach to reporting.
Many members already report corporate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions on a
voluntary basis, for example via the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) so would
question
the need for a mandatory scheme and would support the enhanced voluntary
approach to reporting. This could be under such initiatives as the CDP or as
part of
companies Corporate Social Responsibility activity providing information to
stakeholders such as shareholders, customers and the wider community.
In addition to the various ideas proposed for increasing voluntary reporting FDF
would encourage greater Government support for sector specific voluntary
agreements. FDF has had a voluntary agreement in place since 2007 for members
to reduce
CO2 emissions and other environmental impacts under our Five-fold Environmental Ambition. Since 1990 our members have reduced their CO2 emissions by 21% (2009).
