FDF response to Government Customs White Paper

Back to competitiveness responses index

October 2017

On 9 October 2017, HM Treasury published a customs bill setting out the Government's plans to legislate for the standalone customs, VAT and excise regimes the UK will need once it leave the EU.

FDF submitted a written response setting out priorities for the UK's food and drink industry, including the need to avoid a cliff-edge scenario. This can only be delivered by putting in place a 'status quo' transition period that allows customs arrangements to continue largely unchanged until new arrangements following the final EU Exit deal enter into force.
