FDF Response to LGA Local Waste Review

Back to index

February 2013

Delivering the necessary improvements in both the quantity and quality of materials collected against a backdrop of tighter financial resources is going to be the main challenge facing local government for the foreseeable future. Not only is this going to be necessary to meet the 50% household waste recycling target laid down in the EU Waste Framework Directive but also the Government has set challenging packaging recycling targets for the UK to meet by 2017, particularly in respect of plastics. Local authorities will therefore need to look hard at how they can improve services and maximise collection and recycling rates for key recyclables from the household stream to maximise value and resources.
