FDF Response to BIS Simplification 2010-15
February 2010
Back to competitiveness responses index
FDF has responded to the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills' public
consultation on how Government can help reduce the regulatory burden on
business
by £6.5 billion annually up to 2015.
The initiative aims to create administrative savings of £1.5 billion and a £5
billion reduction in policy costs that businesses must incur to comply with
regulation. The simplification consultation called for evidence based on key
policy
themes and asked in these areas: what regulatory activities placed
disproportionate costs on business compared to benefits; and what actions
should be taken to
remove or reduce costs without undermining the policy intention of the
regulation(s) concerned.
FDF's submission focused on the multitude of voluntary public health measures
that have been introduced in a short space of time, the tide of new employment
legislation coming into effect without clear guidance and the lack of vision
and
clarification behind various climate change and energy policies. The above fell
under the themes of Health and Social Welfare, Employment and Skills and
Natural
Environment.
