Sustainable Palm Oil and Soy
Palm oil and soy oil are versatile and important ingredients used in many food
products, but there are concerns that in some parts of the world, palm oil and
soy
oil plantations are being cultivated at the expense of rainforest habitats.
The UK imports only 1% of the world's 37.8 million tonne annual crop of palm
oil, and just 0.3% of the world's 35.9 million tonne annual crop of soy oil.
Nevertheless FDF members fully support the need to ensure palm and soy oil come
from
more
sustainable sources.
FDF support the aims of both the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) and
the
Roundtable on Responsible Soy. These groups have a variety of members,
including
palm
and soy oil producers and traders, food manufacturers and retailers, who
work
together to promote the growth and use of sustainable palm oil and soy
oil.
They are
also working to bring certified sustainable palm oil and soy oil
to the
market.
