Case Study: Cadbury
The Fit for Life programme is now in its fifth year and reaches
out to all 5000 Cadbury employees in the UK – working across
ten sites and a field sales force.
The programme is managed
by the in-house occupational health team in partnership with
Nuffield Health. A network of champions across all company sites
plays a vital role in communicating and delivering the Fit for Life
programme. Monthly steering group meetings review and monitor
the programme's performance.
The Fit for Life programme is based around four key pillars –
activity, nutrition, personal wellbeing and balance and relaxation.
Highlights during 2009 included:
- A rolling programme of voluntary 1:1 health checks across
all Cadbury sites. The one hour check up includes an
assessment of lifestyle factors and various physiological
measurements such as blood pressure, body mass index,
cholesterol and fitness level. Cancer screening is offered
to older employees. The take up for these health checks is
high
- Participation in the Global Corporate Challenge attracted
more than 100 teams of seven employees from across all
Cadbury sites in the UK. This pedometer challenge took
each team on a virtual walk around the world.
The Cadbury
winning team came from the Bournville manufacturing site
The Fit for Life programme based a number of its health
promotion activities on the NHS Health Events Calendar
for 2009. In particular, support was given to National No
Smoking Day, cancer awareness, heart health and diabetes.
Quit Smoking groups and one to one counselling were on
offer to employees at some sites
- A range of fitness facilities and exercise classes is also
available across our Cadbury sites. These are enjoyed by
a high proportion of the work force. Amongst the most
popular classes are abs, swiss ball, pilates, boxercise and yoga. There are
also
opportunities for employees to relax
with a chair massage, Indian head massage, reflexology and
aromatherapy. An on-site gymnasium at the Cadbury head
office is available free of charge
The Fit for Life programme has now become firmly established
within Cadbury as part of normal business life. The company
continues to receive positive feedback from its employees who
not only participate in the many activities on offer but also help
to shape and revitalise the programme.
