Regional Growth Business – Northern England Award 2017

The food and drink community celebrated success on 21 September 2017 as the winners of the Food and Drink Federation Awards were announced.

The Yorkshire Wagyu Company Ltd starting trading in 2014 after farmers Jim Bloom and Jonathan Shepherd spent two years establishing one of the biggest Wagyu cross and full blood herds in the UK. Aside from just producing exceptional tasting beef, the company's mission is also to educate people about its taste and health benefits of this product.

Key to the company's success and on-going growth has been the way it has overcome the practical and financial challenge of being dictated by the natural three-year production cycle. They have done this through; investing in an on-farm butchery unit and butcher to keep costs down, investing in a catering trailer to sell burgers at festivals and private functions, as well as maximising on marketing and communications including entering awards to raise awareness.

The company's success can be seen both in terms of growth in turnover and profit, as well as in award wins at multiple regional and national awards. The company's cuts, gourmet burgers, award winning pies and biltong are currently available online on their website, as well as at selected restaurants and retailers throughout the UK.
