SLR Consulting is delighted to offer two half day training courses at FDF
Scotland in Edinburgh. In the morning delegates will be provided with an
introduction
to environmental law and in the afternoon the benefits of moving from environmental compliance to a sustainable business
approach will be explained.
Delegates have the option of attending one or both of the training courses, with
a discounted rate if attending both.
Introduction/ refresher to Environmental Law
This half day course will provide an awareness of all major environmental laws
which typically impact companies in Scotland and how to effectively manage
compliance. The course includes the following:
-Brief overview of the structure of law, types of law and the legal framework;
-Introduction to the main environmental laws in the categories of; waste, air,
energy, carbon, water, nuisance, contaminated land, hazardous substances and
conservation;
-Effective techniques to manage day to day environmental law compliance;
-Recent and forthcoming changes to environmental law, and techniques for keeping
up to date with environmental law;
-The role of the regulators and managing regulator relationships;
-Sanctions and enforcement; and
-Managing incidents.
Who should attend:
-Existing environmental managers, coordinators or other individuals with
involvement or responsibility for environmental law compliance management.
-Existing quality and/or health and safety practitioners wishing to develop
their environmental compliance competency.
-Delegates either new to environmental law, or wishing to gain an understanding
of environmental law compliance management.
-Senior managers wishing to gain an understanding of the breadth of
environmental law and scope of liability.
Presenter: Paul Wright
Paul Wright has 9 year’s continuous experience as an environmental
Regulator with Natural Resources Wales and its predecessor bodies. For the last
6
years, prior to joining SLR in 2018, he held the role of Industry Regulation
Team
Leader for North and Mid Wales, where he was responsible for the regulation of
approximately 120 industrial sites under various regulatory regimes, including
Environmental Permitting, COMAH and Radioactive Substances Regulations.
Paul’s regulatory experience gives him superb insight into the
requirements of environmental permitting and compliance and in particular,
knowledge of how
the approach to engagement and improvement can influence the nature and timing
of Regulator actions. This knowledge is complemented by a detailed
understanding
of industrial business operations, which has been gained through 20 plus years
supervising new build and operational management of a variety of industrial
sites. Paul is a Chartered Environmentalist and a Chartered Engineer.
