The global food system is set to face unprecedented pressures over the coming decades; this will require transformational change in the way we do business. Improving resource efficiency across our supply chains from farm to fork will make an important contribution to this challenge.

One of the key pillars of FDF’s Ambition 2025 is Resource Efficiency. FDF members have demonstrated continued dedication to achieving sustainability goals, innovating within their own businesses to achieve improvements on climate change, food waste, packaging, water and transport.

A current priority area for members is packaging. The FDF has worked with UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and other stakeholders to develop the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund (ISCF) Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging (SSPP) Challenge. To receive funding, projects will need to meet the targets of the UK Plastic Pact, which aims to create a circular economy for plastic packaging, through innovation.
