Scottish Government urged to support food and drink companies during turbulent times
Back to list of articles
Ahead of the publication of the Scottish Government's Programme for Government,
David Thomson,
CEO of Food and Drink Federation (FDF) Scotland, said:
“This is a pivotal and precarious time for Scotland's vital food and drink
industry. Worryingly there is
less than 10 weeks before the UK leaves the EU, and there is still not a deal
in
place. This uncertainty
has caused food prices to continue to rise. This is due to a weak pound and an
increase in our
manufacturers costs for warehousing, stockpiling and logistics.
“The Scottish Government must focus on supporting food and drink companies
during these
turbulent times. We urge Ministers to scrap plans to introduce marketing and
promotional restrictions on
food and to pause any consultations that will impact our food and drink supply
chain.
“Over the past 10 years the Scottish Government has been a key partner in our
industry's ambition
to grow and thrive. This has been spectacularly successful. We ask, in these
incredibly difficult times,
that the needs of the industry are understood and prioritised in the lead up to
Brexit.”
