Danone: Expansion of Activia’s Breakfast Pot Granola Yogurt Range: Activia Dark Chocolate Granola Breakfast Pot
Last year, Danone added a new SKU to its Activia’s Breakfast Pot Granola Range: Activia Dark Chocolate Granola Breakfast Pot. This new product was developed in response to rapidly growing consumer demand for foods containing more fibre. Alongside the launch, the full range of Breakfast Pot Granola Yogurts was rebranded with fibre positioned as the key front of pack message, making its benefits clearer and more visible to shoppers.
The fibre in this innovation comes from multiple sources including, oligofructose, acacia fibre and cereal fibres, enabling the product to qualify as a source of fibre. In addition to fibre, Activia Breakfast Pot Granola Yogurts also contain billions of live cultures, and calcium which supports gut health*.
A key challenge was balancing a small indulgence with internal nutritional standards, particularly with the addition of chocolate pieces. The research and development and nutrition teams worked collaboratively to ensure the final recipe met internal Danone nutrition criteria while delivering a satisfying sensory experience.
The launch was supported through consumer-facing marketing spotlighting the new fibre claim and encouraging consumers to “give their gut some love”* with a convenient, on-the-go breakfast pot. This format resonated strongly with morning occasion shoppers, who described the product as indulgent yet healthy*, and providing an easy way to increase their fibre intake.
These efforts positioned the Dark Chocolate Granola Breakfast Pot Yogurt as a nutritious addition to the Activia Breakfast Granola Yogurts range and strengthened the brand’s fibre-focused proposition.
*Activia contains calcium, which contributes to the normal function of digestive enzymes.
