We are looking for an excellent Senior Public Affairs Executive to join our team at an important time for the sector. This role will play a key part in strengthening our political engagement and ensuring the voice of our industry is heard by the people who shape policy.
In this position, you will help deliver our public affairs activity across Westminster, Whitehall, the devolved administrations, and other key stakeholders. You will support our work to influence government on the issues that matter most to our members, helping to build effective relationships and provide clear, timely political insight.
You will contribute to FDF’s wider policy and advocacy work by monitoring political developments, preparing briefings, supporting campaigns, and helping to manage reputational opportunities and risks. Key responsibilities
- Support the delivery of FDF’s public affairs strategy in Westminster, including engagement with government, opposition, advisers and Parliamentarians.
- Develop and implement the Parliamentary engagement strategy to grow FDF’s Parliamentary Champions group and support the work of the APPG for Food and Drink.
- Support the Public Affairs Manager and Leadership Team in engaging senior political figures.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with colleagues, member companies, Parliamentarians and industry partners, including devolved administrations.
- Draft letters and briefings for the CEO and senior leadership.
- Monitor political and policy developments, providing timely advice and reports to colleagues and members.
- Prepare briefings, parliamentary questions, correspondence and digital content to promote FDF’s positions.
- Develop policy documents and submissions for government consultations.
- Work closely with members to gather industry insight and support engagement with government departments.
- Plan and deliver public affairs events such as the annual Parliamentary Reception, party conferences and roundtables.
- Has a public affairs network and is comfortable at networking events.
Requirements
- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline.
- Previous political and public affairs experience.
- Able to demonstrate knowledge of the food and drink sector.
- Excellent knowledge of the UK political system.
- Able to understand and communicate complex policy issues.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
