Job Type        3 Month fixed-term contract

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our Corporate Affairs team. This role is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate looking to start a career in public affairs and communications. You will be supporting the team in building FDF’s reputation as the voice of food and drink manufacturing through the delivery of effective public affairs strategies.

As a Public Affairs Intern, you will get exposure across a broad variety of policy areas affecting UK food and drink manufacturing, alongside supporting the administration of the team’s events and activity in a General Election.

Key responsibilities for the Public Affairs Intern

  • Supporting the team’s plans for a Party Conference stand, stakeholder mapping of Parliamentary candidates for site visits and All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) membership.
  • Assist the Senior Public Affairs Executive in providing Secretariat for the APPG for Food and Drink and the Manufacturing 5 group, co-ordinating and supporting meetings, events and activity throughout the year.
  • Build and maintain productive working relationships with colleagues.
  • Provide research support for the Corporate Affairs team, including for stakeholder and policy briefings.
  • General administration support for the team
  • Share important information that comes from FDF’s monitoring service and ensure that nothing is missed by it.
  • Identify opportunities to promote FDF’s positions through active political and parliamentary monitoring.
  • Keep abreast of political and policy developments affecting the sector.
  • Work with colleagues in helping to plan and deliver public affairs events, including the annual Parliamentary Reception, Party Conference, and other public affairs events.

Requirements for the Public Affairs Intern

  • Graduate in a relevant degree discipline
  • No previous public affairs experience required
  • Able to demonstrate an interest in UK politics and public affairs
  • Working knowledge of UK political processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
