FDSC Exports Working Group

The Food and Drink Sector Council has seven priorities, one of which is Exports. Led by Graham Hutcheon (Managing Director of Edrington and Chair of CBI Scotland), the Exports Core Group is a forum for both senior industry and government representatives to come together – working on detailed Sector Deal proposals which will transform the sector's future growth potential and ensure the UK continues to be home for leading food and drink manufacturers. The Food and Drink Federation (FDF) is the nominated anchor organisation supporting this workstream.

Vision and Objectives

FDSC Exports Core Group Vision:

“Boosting exports in all food and drink categories, doubling the value of the UK's food and drink exports by 2025.”

  1. Successfully deliver a Food and Drink Sector Deal which improves the provision of sector-specific support for food and drink exporters, including practical information, market research and enhanced in-market support in the EU and our priority target markets (China, the Gulf, India, Japan and the USA).
  2. In the short-term, protect our existing export successes by ensuring required support is available for businesses that export within the EU and will face new barriers and processes as a result of Brexit.
  3. Set out ambitious new long-term export targets that industry can deliver with the support of Government as part of a new 'International Action Plan 2020-2024'. This may include overall value and volume targets, the share of exporting food and drink businesses, sectoral and country-specific targets.
  4. Address the fragmented landscape of food and drink export support and ensure a more collaborative, coordinated and effective approach between UK, national/regional campaigns and brands to deliver the best outcomes for exporting businesses.
  5. Drive a more collaborative approach and inspire industry to export through business-to-business engagement, including networking, export mentoring and partnership opportunities between non-competing businesses in overseas markets.
