Premier Foods launch Paxo Super Crumb and Ambrosia Plant-Based Custard

16 June 2025

In 2024 Premier Foods developed and launched 38 new products by recipe which were classified as either a source of fibre, high in fibre or which delivered a source of fibre per portion. Collectively, these products contributed 14.5 tonnes of fibre to the UK diet in 2024. Recognizing the growing demand for healthier and sustainable options, Premier Foods were proud to bring to market Paxo Super Crumb and Ambrosia Plant-Based Custard in 2024.

In 2024 Paxo expanded its breadcrumb range to include healthier crumbs tailored for use with a variety of proteins. Super Crumb has been developed with a unique blend of crumbs specifically designed to meet the needs of more health-conscious consumers. The product has an improved nutritional profile by having a significant reduction in salt and sugar compared to traditional breadcrumbs, as well as offering a source of protein. The inclusion of wholegrains and a variety of seeds helps to deliver 15g of fibre per 100g (vs the 4.4g of fibre per 100g delivered by Paxo Natural Breadcrumb), perfect for better digestive and gut health.

A further example of Premier Foods fibre innovation was the development of Ambrosia Plant Based custard. Whilst traditional custard offers a nutritious profile, our plant-based variety goes one step further to deliver 2.7g of fibre per portion, as well as maintaining a non-HFSS status and adhering to Government sugar and calorie targets for desserts. The custard is free from dairy, making it suitable for those following a plant-based diet and made with sustainably grown ingredients, helping to reduce its carbon footprint compared to traditional dairy-based custard. As per traditional custard, our plant-based custard provides a source of calcium to support bone health and aid in digestive enzyme building. All these achievements have been made while maintaining the rich, creamy taste and indulgent texture that Ambrosia is renowned for.
