Scottish Government food price cap proposals: What this means for your business

The Scottish Government is expected to publish draft legislation on its proposed food price cap policy by 1 September 2026, which will be followed by a public consultation. The policy would establish statutory price ceilings on a basket of 20-50 essential food items sold by large supermarkets, including products such as bread, milk, eggs and other everyday essentials.

While the policy is aimed at retail prices, it could have significant implications for food and drink manufacturers, supply chains and investment decisions across the sector.
