Who is the apprentice?

I am an Apprentice Packaging Technologist at Ashford site. I look after quality issues with packaging, review packaging artwork and assist in testing and trialling new packaging innovation.

What is the best part of your apprenticeship?

All my co-workers are very friendly and are always happy to help when I am struggling with a task. I also really enjoy travelling up to university for my in person learning blocks. With my apprenticeship, I am studying for a degree at Sheffield Hallam university. This gives me the opportunity to improve my value in the workplace, as my knowledge of the sector is constantly growing. It also will be a great addition to my CV, supporting my future.

Why did you choose an apprenticeship?

I wanted to get a degree, but I didn’t like the idea of amounting a lot of debt by going to university the traditional way. By doing an apprenticeship, you get an education, but also you gain valuable work experience. You have no debt and get paid at the same time.

What would you say to anyone considering an apprenticeship?

Do it. They now have lots of experience with many apprentices in different roles, and you will be treated as an equal. In my experience, the company chose an excellent learning provider, and my work to university balance is perfect.
